Hancock County Literacy Coalition

Mary Lynn Burrows, President of the Hancock County Adult Literacy Coalition told Kiwanians about the Hancock County Learning Center.  The Learning Center provides Adult Basic Education, Reading, Math, Writing, Basic Workforce Skills, High School Equivalency Test Preparation, and Post-Secondary Education preparation.  The classes are open to individuals who are least 16 years of age, not enrolled in public school, and need assistance with math or language skills.

The classes are free and the Coalition helps pay for the cost of High School Equivalency testing.  One of the coalition’s primary funding projects is the Adult Bee for Literacy held each September.  This year’s spelling bee will be September 16.

For more information on joining or contributing to the Coalition or participating in the spelling bee contact Mary Lynn Burrows at 317.462.5141 ext 210 or mburrows@hcplibrary.org.
