Linda Hart, Executive Director of Hancock County Senior
Services, spoke to Kiwanis about the programs and services available. They provide several services to help seniors
stay in their homes. These services
include transportation, homemaker, handyman, information and referral,
outreach, volunteer, respite and assisted care, and legal aid. They also provided services to people who are
under 60 with disabilities.
In March 2013, Hancock County Senior Services moved to their
new building on Fields Avenue. New services
and programs include certification of people for Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program (SNAP). They also
participated in the Hunger Summit and are working with Meals on Wheels, Senior
Services, the Senior Center, Hancock County Food Pantry and Gleaners food
bank.
A fraud watch for seniors and a resource library for
caregivers are available. Their goals
are to improve community outreach and continue to provide training to be the best
person you can be. For more information
