City of Greenfield Police Chief John Jester gave Kiwanis an overview of the the department. The Chief noted that two officers will be added to the existing 40 man unit this year. He described the equipment requirements, the costs, and training involved in putting officers on the street. He noted that a recent session had 55 applicants for one position. There were over 25,000 police runs in 2016 handled by the 40 officers.
Chief Jester noted that Greenfield's drug problem increases the number of thefts, burglary and death investigations in the community.
Chief Jester reported that the Cops for Kids program last Holiday Season was more financially successful than anticipated allowing 41 children to receive breakfast and the shopping spree. Each child purchases $200 clothing and $100 in toys.
