Rebecca Schini, Wyatt Huber, and Elizabeth Fields |
Wyatt Huber
and Elizabeth Fields, Greenfield-Central High School students, told Kiwanis
about two of the science program projects at the high school.
The
20th Annual Great Moonbuggy Race
will be held April 25 - 27, 2013 in Huntsville, Alabama, at the U.S. Space
& Rocket Center. Students are required to design a vehicle that addresses a
series of engineering problems that are similar to problems faced by the
original Moonbuggy team. Greenfield has a seven member team that
includes Wyatt and Elizabeth.
Greenfield
will enter IGEM, the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition with
a project manipulating yeast bacteria to give off a wintergreen scent in the
presence of arsenic. This would help
check for the presence of arsenic in third world water supplies.
The two
competitions require additional funding to support entry fees, transportation,
lodging and meals. Checks should be made
out to Greenfield-Central High School with a memo notation of either Moonbuggy
or IGEM and sent to G-CHS, c/o Rebecca Schini, 801 North Broadway, Greenfield,
In 46140. For more information on IGEM

projects see, http://moonbuggy.msfc.nasa.gov .
