Busy Night at Kiwanis

Greenfield Kiwanis was visited by the Rose Division Lt. Governor, Sue Otte; Meals on Wheels directors, Kathleen Vahle and Jennifer Presser; and heard reports Kiwanis programs for Visually Impaired Preschool Services, Project Eliminate, Moon rover Challenge, and Easter Carrots.

Meals on Meals on Wheels of Hancock County, Inc. is an independently funded 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to help the citizens of Hancock County maintain an independent lifestyle through the delivery of nutritious meals in accordance with prescribed dietary needs and provide a point of personal contact with the community.

Meals on Wheels of Hancock County provide two home delivered meals each weekday to Hancock County residents who have difficulty cooking or shopping for themselves.  Each meal is hand packed to the client's physician's specifications as well as the client's personal preferences.  Meals are delivered throughout Hancock County by friendly volunteers, providing a daily wellness check for each client.
 

Meals on Wheels of Hancock County, Inc. does not receive federal or state funding, therefore we rely on client payment, individual, group and corporate donations, as well as grants and various fund raising events in order to provide this service.  As part of their fund raising they will hold their 5th Annual Sumptuous Settings, Saturday, April 26th, 2014 @ 5:30pm at Indiana Grand Casino.  For more information see http://www.mealsonwheelsonline.org/

 

Susie Billings, President; Becky Riley, President-Elect; and Donna Owens, Secretary attended the Indiana District Mid-Year Kiwanis meeting in Indianapolis on Saturday, February 22.  Becky Riley reported on the Kiwanis sponsored program, Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) serves children who are blind, visually impaired, or multiply disabled, and who are under the age of three years, through the First Steps program in Kentucky and Indiana. Donna Owen, reported on The Eliminate Project.  With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.  As of February 16, 2014, the Kiwanis family has raised more than US$2.59 million for The Eliminate Project, which will save or protect more than 1.4 million women and their future babies from maternal and neonatal tetanus.  For more information see http://www.kiwanis.org/ .
