Ninestar Connect’s David Spencer, Director of Marketing and
Mike Burrow, President spoke to Kiwanis about the company and its plans to
expand into water and sewer services throughout their service area. Ninestar provides residential and business
electrical and telecom services in Hancock, Hamilton, Madison, and Rush
counties. Over 100 employees service
over 14,000 customers. The company paid over $1,000,000 in property
taxes in 2016. Since 2011, Ninestar has
returned $2.5 million to its member/customers in cash payments.
Ninestar found that the lack of “wet utilities” contributes
to uneven growth in their service areas.
75% of Hancock County doesn’t have access to water or sewer
service. Numerous private wells are
being tested due to unsafe water. Many
private septic systems do not meet current requirements. Initially, Ninestar has purchased water
utilities from Sugar Creek Utilities, and Philadelphia Water. Ninestar hopes that as they develop their
utilities additional development will help to pay for the expansion.
