Kiwanis Rose Division Lt. Governor Steve Brack inducted sixteen new members into the Greenfield Kiwanis club on Tuesday, June 5.  The new members joined the club as it celebrates it’s 90th year in Greenfield.  The club was established on September 21, 1922.
Lt. Gov. Brack read the six permanent Objects of Kiwanis to the members.  They were adopted by Kiwanis club delegates at the 1924 International Convention in Denver, Colorado. Through the decades, they have remained unchanged.
  • To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
  • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
  • To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
  • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
  • To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
  • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.
Dennis Chapman, Kiwanis Membership Chair, explained the local club history.  Highlights of the local club include:
·         Being the lead Kiwanis Club in raising money for the Kiwanis wing of Riley Children’s Hospital
·         Establishing Riley Park
       ·         Helping develop Nameless Creek Youth Camp
        ·         Awarding 3 scholarship awards to students every year since 1928
·         Sponsoring students’ participation to Boys and Girls State.
Upcoming activities for the membership include concession sales at Entertainment at the Plaza, visiting the Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice Unit, and parking cars at the Air Show.  The members will meet  the  scholarship winners next week.
