Kindergarten 101 and New Members

Bert Jones, , Health and Human Sciences Educator at the Hancock County Purdue Extension spoke to Kiwanis about the Kindergarten 101 program that will be conducted  July 9 through 13.  Kindergarten 101 is a free, week long program where children learn basic skills that will help them succeed in Kindergarten.  In addition they receive games and activities to continue the learning at home.  The program includes two classes that give the parents an opportunity to learn how to best help their children in Kindergarten.  

Twenty nine children are registered in the program that is conducted by a licensed teacher.   The program was designed for students who will be entering Kindergarten in August and preference was given to those children who had not participated in pre-school or structured daycare.  

The program was funded from a literacy grant  from the Hancock County Community Foundation.  The program is being conducted by Purdue Extension in conjunction with Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County, ICAP Head Start, and Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation. 

The club inducted six new members:  Georgia and Burl Carmichael, Sharon Feister, Jim Hahn, and Jim and Deb Tatom.  The June membership drive was very successful with 22 new members in total added.
