Elizabeth Carlton, Adam Rominger, Sarah Mueller and Taylor Kennedy
Four Hancock County students each received a $1,000 Kiwanis
scholarship based on academics and service activities in school and the
community. High school seniors and
college students who graduated from one of the four Hancock County high schools
are eligible for the scholarships. The
scholarships honor three Kiwanians, J.B Stephens, Bill Griffing, and Robert “Brownie” Eagleston.
The J. B. Stephens Education Scholarhsip was awarded to
Elizabeth Carlton, a recent Eastern Hancock High School graduate. She will attend Anderson University. While in high school she participated in
volleyball, track, swimming and basketball.
She was a member of student council, National Honor Society, and SADD. She helped with Royal Family Kids camp, Relay
for Life, and Destiny Color Guard Unit.
The William Griffing Science Scholarships were awarded to
Taylor Kennedy and Adam Rominger. Taylor
is a recent graduate of Greenfield-Central High School and will attend Purdue
University this fall. While attending G-C, Taylor organized a fitness program
for elementary students; started a bowl-a-thon to support leukemia research;
and started a pet food pantry at the Hancock County Food Pantry.
Adam Rominger is a sophomore at Butler University and a
graduate of New Palestine High School.
He is majoring in pharmacy at Butler.
Adam is an Eagle Scout. While in high
school he worked on the FUSE fundraiser; was a 4 year varsity swimmer; was an
academic all American in swimming; and worked on the Relay for Life. At Butler he has been on the Dean’s List both
semesters of his freshman year He Is a member of the professional fraternity
for pharmacy, and helped with a dance marathon to benefit Riley Hospital for
Children.
The Robert Eagleston Business scholarship was awarded to
Sarah Mueller a sophomore at Purdue University and a graduate of Eastern
Hancock High School. While in high school
she was active in FFA and volunteered at the Kenneth Butler Soup Kitchen. At Purdue she completed a study abroad
program in China and will be part of the collegiate Farm Bureau program in
Washington D.C. This summer she is
working as an intern at Beck Hybrid Seeds.
The Kiwanis scholarship committee is composed of Dorothy
Gunn, Nancy Ferdon, Susie Broome, Becky Riley, and Nancy Herndon. Nancy Herndon chairs the committee and is a
high school counselor.
